Note on attendance:

An “absence” is defined as both “failure to attend a scheduled class meeting” AND “failure to arrive in a timely fashion (i.e. no later than 10 minutes after the beginning of a scheduled class meeting.”)

Absences come in two varieties: “excused” and “unexcused.” An “excused” absence will be granted (at the Captain’s discretion) only for:

a) Circumstances arising from the certifiable hospitalization or death of an immediate family member (mother, father, or blood sibling) related to the student in question
b) Circumstances arising from the certifiable hospitalization or death of the student in question
c) Required participation in an officially sanctioned institutional event
d) Certain acts of God (fire, flood, pestilence, etc.) that prohibit class attendance
e) Zombie Apocalypse

Students granted an excused absence will be required to submit additional work to the instructor as evidence of their mastery of course materials.

Each unexcused absence will result in a half letter grade deduction from the offending student’s semester average. Three or more (3+) unexcused absences will result in a semester grade of “F”

“In-Flight Etiquette:”
Regulations require that all unnecessary electronic equipment (including cell phone, laptops, and other portable devices) be turned off for the duration of scheduled flights. If you are found to be operating a personal computing device for purposes other than taking notes, you will be charged with an unexcused absence.

Drop Policy – Students may drop classes through self-service in MyMav from the beginning of the registration period. After the late registration period, students must see an advisor in the University Advising Center. Drops can continue through a point two-thirds of the way through the semester. It is the student’s responsibility to officially withdraw if they do not plan to attend after registering. Students will not be automatically dropped for non-attendance. Repayment of certain types of financial aid administered through the University may be required as the result of dropping classes or withdrawing. Americans with Disabilities Act – UTA is on record as being committed to both the spirit and letter of all federal equal opportunity legislation, including the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). All instructors at UT Arlington are required by law to provide “reasonable accommodations” to students with disabilities, so as not to discriminate on the basis of that disability. Electronic Communication – UT Arlington has adopted MavMail as its official means to communicate with students about important deadlines and events, as well as to transact university-related business regarding financial aid, tuition, grades, graduation, etc. All students are assigned a MavMail account and are responsible for checking the inbox regularly. There is no additional charge to students for using this account, which remains active even after graduation. Information about activating and using MavMail is available HERE.

Campus Carry  Effective August 1, 2016, the Campus Carry law (Senate Bill 11) allows those licensed individuals to carry a concealed handgun in buildings on public university campuses, except in locations the University establishes as prohibited. Student Feedback Survey – At the end of each term, students enrolled in classes categorized as lecture, seminar, or laboratory shall be directed to complete a Student Feedback Survey (SFS). Instructions on how to access the SFS for this course will be sent directly to each student through MavMail approximately 10 days before the end of the term. Each student’s feedback enters the SFS database anonymously and is aggregated with that of other students enrolled in the course. UT Arlington’s effort to solicit, gather, tabulate, and publish student feedback is required by state law; students are strongly urged to participate.
